Learning and Welllbeing

Learning + Wellbeing = Thriving
In its own right, building a child’s resilience, sense of belonging, and wellbeing prepares the child to handle life’s ups and downs and enables them to thrive.  Research also shows that building wellbeing has a powerfully positive effect on performance at school; in fact, a landmark 2012 study showed that schools who explicitly build social-emotional wellbeing in students have demonstrated and average of an 18% gain in academic achievement.
In a major review in the UK (released on May2, 2017), a parliamentary Report on Children and Young People’s Mental Health shows us what most of us already know. It is not a matter of trying to find time to ‘fit in’ wellbeing and resilience -building at the expense of academic studies – the two go hand in hand.
Kilcoy State School has a Learning and Wellbeing group who are developing our approach to effectively building wellbeing and optimise academic performance.  A launch of our Learning and Wellbeing approach will held late in Term 2, 2017.
