Learning to read is one of the most important skills in life. Reading unlocks the magic of novels leading us to other worlds and places, it allows to be fully informed about our rapidly-changing world, and is critical for full participation in the world of work and future study.
At Kilcoy State School, reading is a key part of our explicit improvement agenda and we can make greatest improvement through working closely with parents to support your child’s reading.
Children who read on a daily basis develop a larger vocabulary and better reading skills that those who do not. The gap between willing readers and those reluctant readers just keeps growing unless we (the school and parents) take steps to work together to foster a love of reading.
