Kilcoy State School, established in 1892, is located in the northern section of the Somerset region in Queensland. It is located close to the centre of town in the heart of a rapidly changing rural area, with several established and budding industries. Kilcoy State School has an enrolment of approximately 275 students from prep to year 6 across 11 classrooms with a wide range of support personnel. We operate as a team to provide the best possible 21st century education and learning environment for our students. Positive relationships between staff and students are purposefully developed and maintained with enthusiasm and open friendliness.
Kilcoy State School has a tradition of academic excellence balanced with sporting, cultural and citizenship achievements. A clear focus in the school is providing a solid foundation in literacy and numeracy skills. Every classroom teacher explicitly teaches the Australian Curriculum and differentiates for all learners so that each and every student can reach their maximum potential. Students reach their potential because teachers clearly articulate what is to be learnt and what they expect to see if a child has learnt it.
Kilcoy State School promotes a green and healthy environment. The Language other than English (LOTE) undertaken in the school is Japanese. We also provide specialist lessons in Technologies, The Arts and Physical Education. It is our aim to provide a study program that addresses the identified needs of our students. Support from the wider community is encouraged. There are a number of active parents who run the Parents and Citizens Association. The school vision statement is that Kilcoy State School will continue to be a high performing academic school that is caring, supportive and challenging. Every student will be offered the opportunity to thrive and participate fully in the learning process. The school will continue to take an active role in the community. As it grows and develops, Kilcoy State School will embrace innovation and creativity whilst maintaining its unique rural atmosphere. We will always strive for excellence in every area. The school offers outstanding sports, performing arts and reading programs.
